Bringing
David Shrigley's Artworks to Life
An immersive AR experience at sketch London
Sketch and HATO have collaborated to create a first in the hospitality industry. The mayfair restaurant has released a new app, that brings Turner Prize nominee, David Shrigley’s artworks to life through AR technology. Allowing diners to create their own immersive playground using Shirgley’s artworks. The free app is a playful extension of the world of sketch and encourages you to get lost somewhere between the digital and the real world all whilst enjoying afternoon tea or an evening cocktail.
Taking elements of the actual artworks in The Gallery, HATO have animated several different characters and motifs that can be placed in and around your immediate surroundings using your iPhone’s camera. The stickers once placed, will animate and interact with the objects around them, allowing users to explore their own AR world.
The app also allows for video and photo creation that are downloadable and sharable on social media platforms. There are currently 15 animated stickers for users to enjoy and explore from Shrigley’s tearful puppy to a spray can and news banner.
Unlike other AR app’s that are reliant on recognition from the actual artworks, the app created by HATO can be enjoyed anywhere in any environment.
The project is the start of sketch’s venture into the digital world and will see the two practices developing it further in the future.
